Hyacinths are bulb plants and blossom in spring. Forced bulbs are available in stores in November. In the garden they bloom in March and April. The name "hyacinth" comes from the Greek myth, the handsome young man Hyacinthos was instructed by the sun god Apollo in discus throwing. The wind god Zephyros got very jealous and killed the young man. From the young man's blood Apollo let thrive a hyacinth, so he may rise anew each year.
